Research
We use structural biology to investigate the interaction between protease inhibitors and proteases and this also provides a starting point for structure-based inhibitor design. We have worked on several different proteases including viral proteases such as HIV protease (collaboration with David Fairlie and Paul Alewood) and the NS3 proteases of Dengue and West Nile viruses (collaboration withy Paul Young and David Fairlie). We are currently working on the structure of the only known mammalian carboxypeptidase inhibitor, latexin, which is expressed in large amounts in inflammatory tissue (collaboration with David Hume and Bostjan Kobe).
